The International Journal of Environmental, Cultural, Economic and Social Sustainability creates a place for the publication of papers presenting innovative theories and practices of sustainability. The journal is cross-disciplinary in its scope, a meeting point for natural and social scientists, researchers and practitioners, professionals and community representatives.

The perspectives presented in the journal range from big picture analyses which address global and universal concerns, to detailed case studies which speak of localised applications of the principles and practices of sustainability. The papers traverse a broad terrain, sometimes technically and other times socially oriented, sometimes theoretical and other times practical in their perspective, and sometimes reflecting dispassionate analysis whilst at other times suggesting interested strategies for action.

The journal is relevant for academics in the social sciences, applied sciences, the humanities, the professions and education, research students, public administrators in local, provincial and state government, representatives of the private sector and trainers and industry consultants.

The International Journal of Environmental, Cultural, Economic and Social Sustainabilityis peer-reviewed, supported by rigorous, criterion-referenced article ranking and qualitative commentary processes, ensuring that only intellectual work of significance is published.

The Sustainability community publishes into a family of journals. This consists of a series of thematically focused journals, as well as a highlights journal that republishes a selection of articles for the thematic journals. All papers accepted for publication will appear in one of the following thematic journals:

- The International Journal of Environmental Sustainability

- The International Journal of Cultural, Economic, and Social Sustainability

- The International Journal of Sustainability Policy and Practice

- The International Journal of Sustainability Education

Each of these journals has the subtitle: ‘A section of The International Journal of Environmental, Cultural, Economic, and Social Sustainability’.

The highlights journal consists only of reprints of articles from the thematic journals. It contains top-ranked articles and works by invited contributions, including plenary speakers from the Sustainability conference. This is not a second publication of an article. As the subtitle of the highlights journal clearly indicates, this journal only consists of reprints.

Authors can request which of the thematic journals they would prefer for the publication of their article. Alternatively, when the author does not opt to make a selection, the Common Ground editorial team will curate each paper into the appropriate thematic journal.
